Insurance Requirements

Restricted Dog Breeds

Many property insurance carriers restrict certain dog breeds. The list below is provided as general guidance for prospective residents and may vary by property and insurer.

Before You Apply

If your dog is a restricted breed or a mix that includes a restricted breed, approval may be denied at certain properties based on insurance carrier requirements. Service animals and emotional support animals with an approved reasonable accommodation are handled separately under fair housing law.

Commonly Restricted Breeds

The following breeds are frequently excluded by property insurance carriers. This list is illustrative and not exhaustive.

  • Pit Bull Terriers / American Pit Bull Terriers
  • American Staffordshire Terriers
  • Staffordshire Bull Terriers
  • Rottweilers
  • Doberman Pinschers
  • Presa Canarios
  • Cane Corsos
  • Wolf hybrids
  • Chow Chows
  • Akitas
  • Alaskan Malamutes
  • Siberian Huskies
  • Any mix or partial breed of the above

Questions About Your Dog?

If your dog is a mix or you're unsure whether it falls under a restriction, please contact our Marysville office before applying. We can confirm whether a specific property's insurance allows your pet, or direct you to properties without breed restrictions. Service animals and approved emotional support animals follow a separate reasonable-accommodation process under fair housing law and are not subject to breed restrictions on that basis.

  • Pets must be current on vaccinations and licensed per local requirements.
